Here are three ways using your sprinkler system can help protect your home’s foundation:

  1. Prevents Soil Shrinkage: During hot, dry months, soil—especially clay—can dry out and shrink, creating gaps around your foundation. Regular watering keeps the soil moist and stable, reducing the risk of settling or shifting.

  2. Maintains Even Soil Moisture: Uneven moisture levels can cause parts of the foundation to move independently (known as differential settling), leading to cracks. A sprinkler system helps maintain consistent moisture levels around your home’s perimeter.

  3. Reduces Risk of Foundation Cracks: By keeping the soil from becoming too dry or too wet (which can happen if only rainfall is relied on), you minimize the expansion and contraction cycles that can put stress on your foundation and cause cracks.
